Dr. Benjamin Barkley grew up in Rocky Mount, NC and attended Rocky Mount Sr. High school where he enjoyed playing football and baseball for the varsity teams. Dr. Barkley then attended NC State University, graduating Magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in textile management.
After working in the textile industry for several years, Dr. Barkley returned to NC State for prerequisite courses prior to attending dental school at UNC – Chapel Hill. After graduating with honors from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, he was selected to attend a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.
Dr. Barkley worked for two years in private practice before moving to the high country where he established two practices,including High Country Dentistry in Boone, NC and later Mountain City Dental in Mountain City, TN. While in the high country, Dr. Barkley became a scholar of the Dawson Academy program and also obtained advanced training in implant placement and restorations.
Following the sale of his offices in the high country, Dr. Barkleydecided to spend more time with family and travel to destinations that he and his wife have always wanted to see. After living in Raleigh for several years, Dr. Barkley and his wife have decided to return to Ashe county to be closer to his parents and enjoy a more relaxed way of life.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Barkley enjoys spending time with his wife, Homa, traveling, playing on his tractor, landscaping and gardening. Rooting for the Wolfpack and Tarheels is always a conflicting but enjoyable past time as well.
Dr. Barkley looks forward to becoming a part of the community while getting to know his patients and providing them theopportunity to obtain optimal dental health.
